The world has literally gone into quarantine due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This is an unprecedented crisis situation in terms of breadth and scale, from a global health, social and economic standpoint.

The global concern about the COVID-19 pandemic has put a lot of pressure on all business sectors and shipping industry as well. The whole maritime community has responded by issuing guidance and instructions on what measures should be taken to avoid contagion.

Namely, both IMO and WHO as well as several Flag Administrations and Associations provide updates on the issue to help combat the spread of coronavirus. Recently, ICS issued a detailed guidance including advice for seafarers’ protection and IMO published Circular Letter 4221, according to which each Company should develop an effective Management Plan, with detailed instructions for Master and crew.
